Intern Exit Interviews

Thank you for a wonderful party tonight! Merry Christmas to all the Secret Santas. Will and Siara still have gifts to pick up, so I hope to see you at the Opening Reception of Love Letters on Wednesday so we can continue the gift giving there.

Exit Interviews/Auditions

To end the summer and show off what you've learned, you will prepare a song and monologue as an audition package. Today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday, the last two days of July) you will choose your song and monologue. Over the next few days, you'll use all you've learned to work on them on your own. Then, next week, you will meet with me to perform them as an audition. The audition time slots are posted on the blog. Please let me know by Thursday if those times do not work for you.

The song should be 16 bars of you singing. The monologue should be 30 seconds long, from a play, and suitable to your age and gender. Preferably, the song and monologue will be contrasting (one is comedic, one is dramatic), but as long as they are not the same character type, you'll be fine.

The audition will consist of you and I on stage at the boat. It will be forty minutes and will include:

  1. Your Slate (Say Your name and your audition pieces)
  2. Your Audition Pieces
  3. Time to work on certain aspects of the audition to bring it to the next level
  4. Discussion of goals for the future
  5. Suggestions for next year's internship program

Keep checking the schedule on the blog for ways to help out at the boat :) Keep in contact with me about your conflicts until August 12! I can't believe it's almost over :(
-Kristin

Intern Meeting Information

Weekly Intern Notes - July 21

Thank you for all your work this past week. I know it's been a little crazy juggling tech hours, HONK, and Spelling Bee help. You've stayed focused and determined. Now let's go into our last week of HONK with energy and enthusiasm! Invite all your friends!

  • Follies: WARTS AND ALL is the first song of Follies! Yay! Please see Nicki or Tommy for all your questions about Follies tech. Please plan to wear "your Sunday best" for the performance. Make sure you are comfortable in the clothes you choose so that the choreography does not have to change. No flip flops. Also, if you have some extra glasses or glasses frames to share, I'd LOVE to have everyone in glasses :) The nerdier, the better.
  • HONK, Jr. Tech: Please check the blog schedule every day this week to make sure you know of any changes. It will be a busy week, but we can handle it! Changes to the schedule will most likely take place at the end of the day around 10:30pm. If you're unable to check the blog, contact another intern who can! Yay for working together!
  • Publicity: Theatre does not exist without an audience. Soooo... please use Facebook, email, Twitter, and texting every day this week to invite your friends to HONK, Jr. Here's some info to pick and choose from depending on who you're talking to: HONK! Jr. The story of the ugly duckling. A 70-minute musical comedy. Friday, July 27 @ 7:30 and Sunday, July 29 @ noon. Tickets are $15.
  • Change Overs: Because we're performing Honk on the Spelling Bee set, transforming the stage will take lots of help from you. Please plan to be on hand after each rehearsal this week to help with the following (this is just a basic list so you have an idea of the kinds of things we'll be doing):
    • Organize/Maintaining props to keep them from mixing with Spelling Bee
    • Helping Kyle with changing gels in the lighting instruments
    • Helping Steven and Joe with the fabric that will cover the SB set, attaching/removing the side walls of the SB gym set, moving the boxes away from the stage
    • Hanging/removing the posters hanging in the house
  • Secret Santa: We get to have fun with Christmas in July! Yay! Give your secret santa person a $1 gift on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday next week. Be sure it's wrapped and has a name on it. Keep it secret! Then on Monday we'll give the last gift ($15 maximum) at our party in the lobby at 5.
  • Opening Night Reception: We will have an opening night reception on Friday after the show, so please bring some of your fancy "I'm a hot shot actor" clothes to change into after the show.
  • Costume Fitting Schedule for SUNDAY, JULY 22 in the GREEN ROOM
During Spelling Bee:

Intern Weekly Meeting Notes

July 7 Intern Meeting

Thank you, Interns, for a wonderful week! Not only did you continue your amazing performances in Bye, Bye, Birdie! but you started rehearsals for HONK! Jr. Thank you for all your work. The Showboat is definitely an amazing place to work because of your dedication. I'm attaching an updated calendar, for those parents who would like to print their own. Click here for the google document.
Here are a few things we talked about this week and last week at our meetings:
  • Follies: Once the season for next summer is decided, we'll start working on a group number for Follies! Auditions are on Saturday the 21st, immediately following our Ivan show.
  • Bye, Bye, Birdie: Keep up the good work. I saw the show Saturday night, and it's looking terrific. Make sure you're warming up your voices before the show. I could tell some of your voices were a little tired. Warm ups will help get that energy and volume where you need it! Also, I've asked the actors to take teaching roles with you back stage, so if they politely ask you to do something, please do so with professionalism.
  • HONK Warm Ups: Warm ups will continue to be at 9:45am. We have a shorter rehearsal period because of Spelling Bee Tech week, so arriving a little earlier will help our show be the best it can be. It's okay to walk in right at 9:45, but just be ready to warm up right away. I'll be there by 9:40 starting warm ups.
  • Felix Adler Day: Ivan performance went so well last week! Thank you for helping at the Discovery Center. The advertising helped the Showboat, so keep it up.
  • Advertising: Speaking of advertising, there are posters and flyers of the children's theatre shows and HONK! all over town thanks to Anna, Will, and Taylor. We need even more out there. Take an hour this week (a tech hour!!) and grab some flyers from the box office to give to your friends, family, or people walking by!
  • Improv Night: All interns are required to go to Improv Night with a non-intern friend on Tuesday (show starts at 7:30 and you'll love it). It does cost $10, though. If you can't make it for whatever reason, just let me know. I will totally understand. No punishment/hard feelings :)
  • Saturday Mornings: We've learned what works best on Saturdays, so let's just make it the norm. I have Honk rehearsals on some Saturday mornings, but I don't think that's going to be best for us. From now on, Saturday mornings will go like this:
  1. Sign in on the Intern Board in the Green Room
  2. Set up for that day's children's theatre show
  3. Intern Meeting and Warm Ups by 10:20
  4. Run Through the Show by 11:00
  5. Notes
  6. Crew greet patrons at 11:40
  7. Show at noon!
  • Spelling Bee: The cast and crew thank you for helping with Spelling Bee rehearsals! Here's the schedule...
Monday, July 9
2:30-5: Run through (with Jessica, Taylor, Matt, Aiden)
Wednesday, July 11
7:30-10: Designer run (with Carolyn, Anna, Maddie, Will)
Thursday, July 12
2:30-5: Run through (with Allison, Molly, Kamerra, Noah)
Sunday, July 15
10:30-1: Run (with Molly, Alice, Siara, Danica)
