Intern Weekly Meeting Notes

July 7 Intern Meeting

Thank you, Interns, for a wonderful week! Not only did you continue your amazing performances in Bye, Bye, Birdie! but you started rehearsals for HONK! Jr. Thank you for all your work. The Showboat is definitely an amazing place to work because of your dedication. I'm attaching an updated calendar, for those parents who would like to print their own. Click here for the google document.
Here are a few things we talked about this week and last week at our meetings:
  • Follies: Once the season for next summer is decided, we'll start working on a group number for Follies! Auditions are on Saturday the 21st, immediately following our Ivan show.
  • Bye, Bye, Birdie: Keep up the good work. I saw the show Saturday night, and it's looking terrific. Make sure you're warming up your voices before the show. I could tell some of your voices were a little tired. Warm ups will help get that energy and volume where you need it! Also, I've asked the actors to take teaching roles with you back stage, so if they politely ask you to do something, please do so with professionalism.
  • HONK Warm Ups: Warm ups will continue to be at 9:45am. We have a shorter rehearsal period because of Spelling Bee Tech week, so arriving a little earlier will help our show be the best it can be. It's okay to walk in right at 9:45, but just be ready to warm up right away. I'll be there by 9:40 starting warm ups.
  • Felix Adler Day: Ivan performance went so well last week! Thank you for helping at the Discovery Center. The advertising helped the Showboat, so keep it up.
  • Advertising: Speaking of advertising, there are posters and flyers of the children's theatre shows and HONK! all over town thanks to Anna, Will, and Taylor. We need even more out there. Take an hour this week (a tech hour!!) and grab some flyers from the box office to give to your friends, family, or people walking by!
  • Improv Night: All interns are required to go to Improv Night with a non-intern friend on Tuesday (show starts at 7:30 and you'll love it). It does cost $10, though. If you can't make it for whatever reason, just let me know. I will totally understand. No punishment/hard feelings :)
  • Saturday Mornings: We've learned what works best on Saturdays, so let's just make it the norm. I have Honk rehearsals on some Saturday mornings, but I don't think that's going to be best for us. From now on, Saturday mornings will go like this:
  1. Sign in on the Intern Board in the Green Room
  2. Set up for that day's children's theatre show
  3. Intern Meeting and Warm Ups by 10:20
  4. Run Through the Show by 11:00
  5. Notes
  6. Crew greet patrons at 11:40
  7. Show at noon!
  • Spelling Bee: The cast and crew thank you for helping with Spelling Bee rehearsals! Here's the schedule...
Monday, July 9
2:30-5: Run through (with Jessica, Taylor, Matt, Aiden)
Wednesday, July 11
7:30-10: Designer run (with Carolyn, Anna, Maddie, Will)
Thursday, July 12
2:30-5: Run through (with Allison, Molly, Kamerra, Noah)

  1. I just updated the calendar one last time (hopefully last time). The only thing I changed was July 16th - Rehearsal for HONK will only last 9:45-11. Afterwards, those who wish may carpool to the nun brunch.

Also, keep in mind that when you arrive for tech hours, treat it like arriving for rehearsal (when you're on time, you're late... when you're early, you're on time!). Thanks!
